Edinburgh Zoo Wedding Photographer

When Joanna and Benjamin got in touch about their Edinburgh Zoo wedding, my immediate thought was: fuck yes.

Benjamin is Swedish, and they shaped their whole day around Swedish Midsummer vibes — wildflowers, flower crowns, Schnapps, and a wedding that felt relaxed, personal, and unapologetically them.

Their humanist ceremony at Edinburgh Zoo, led by Maureen Kettle, included handmade rings (made by Benjamin’s mum), ring-warming, handfasting, and sharing Schnapps from a quaich. Their ceremony was extremely emotional (particularly the Swedish side), and full of their own personality.

After the ceremony, the zoo drove us around in a wee car so we could grab portraits with the giraffes and dinosaurs, which is exactly as class as it sounds. Edinburgh Zoo is such a unique wedding venue and gives you backdrops you just don’t get anywhere else.

Later, we snuck off during a food and music festival happening inside the zoo. Joanna and Benjamin blagged free cocktails from Glenmorangie, soaked up the atmosphere, and just enjoyed being together. Proof that you can get away with anything in a white dress.

They finished the night with a full-on ceilidh courtesy of The Jiggers Ceilidh Band, which was as joyfully chaotic as you can imagine with the Swedish / Scottish mix!
